Kate focuses her practice on general corporate and transactional matters, with a specific emphasis on buying and selling businesses, succession planning, general contractual matters and corporate governance. Kate regularly assists clients in corporate formation, proper entity selection, contract negotiation, and creating policies and practices to ensure healthy corporate governance practices and procedures. 

 

Prior to joining Carlson Black, Kate practiced in the transactional corporate subgroup at an AmLaw 200 firm, where she assisted businesses and real estate developers in mergers and acquisitions, development projects and strategic corporate planning.

 

Kate also has extensive knowledge and experience with the unique challenges facing agricultural clients and industry adjacent stakeholders. Having grown up on a family cash-crop and beef operation, and working in agriculture prior to pursuing a legal career, she brings industry knowledge and wherewithal when advising her clients. In addition to her legal work, Kate and her husband run a family-owned agronomic services and consulting company, which serves farmers throughout Southern Wisconsin.
